Sucia Island

Sucia Island is a wonderful destination and one of our favorite for a weekend.  The entire island is a marine park and has great hiking trails.  Around it are many wonderful moorage/anchorage sites.  Here are the ones we've visited.

Shallow Bay on the west side of the island offers some of the finest sunsets you'll ever see.  It does pick up some chop at high tide from Boundary Passage

 

Ewing Cove on the northeast corner of the island.  Only four mooring buoys here so you can expect some privacy.

 

Snoring Bay on the southeast corner of the island.  Only two mooring buoys here.  The last time we visited, the buoy "felt" sloppy and we seemed to be getting closer to the sides of the cove than I like.  We moved to Fossil Bay.

 

Fossil Bay is right next to Snoring Bay and is our most common Sucia destination because it is well protected, has many mooring buoys and occasionally offers dock space (in the off season). Tying up to a dock makes it simple to go on hikes.

 

 

On one February visit, we got great views of an immature bald eagle.
