May 17th - Shoal Bay, Thurlow Island

We kept careful data last night and the house bank was still in good condition this morning.  Being the superstitious type, I won't declare the problem fixed until several more uneventful days.

One of the unpleasant manifestations of the house bank issue was that the furnace wouldn't work until we started the genset and brought the voltage up.  It has been pretty mild so it wasn't huge problem but a cold front is moving in so I am sure we'll appreciate the furnance in the morning more.

We had to time our arrival at a series of passes with the right currents.  That meant we had all morning to finally break out the kayaks and paddle around the inlet and then read the books we brought. 

We pulled anchor around 2:30 PM.  We needed to be at the first pass at 5:30 PM (an hour before the turn to an ebb current).  Not knowing exactly how long it would take us on account of currents, I errored on the conservative side and we arrived a half hour early.  Once we started through the first pass (Yucalta) the others (Gillard and Dent) went as planned.

We are now tied up at the Government Dock in Shoal Bay on Thurlow Island (May 17) along with a power boat and three sail boats that all did the same passes as we.

Tomorrow we hope to do a couple more passes and perhaps poke our noses out into Johnstone Strait.
