June 17th - Laura Cove, Desolation Sound

We pulled into Laura Cove in Desolation Marine Park (June 17) at about 5 PM. We left Cordero Lodge at 10 AM in order to hit the 12:24 PM slack at Dent Rapids, the first of three rapids in succession (Gillard and Yucalta being the other two).

We arrived at Dent a little early so we started to do "doughnuts" in the water to kill time. Two other boats were doing likewise. As it turned out, one of the other boats was a Selene 40, Aquarius, that we bumped into last year just a few miles south of Dent. Small world.

Laura Cove is right next door to Prideaux Haven and Melanie Cove, two of the most popular anchorages in the park. We anchored in Melanie Cove last year on our two-week cruising trip. We'll probably spend tomorrow anchored here and doing some kayaking through the close-in islets.

Now for some dry statistics. Today we passed through the 1,000 mile mark on our trip. The last five days have been especially busy. We left Shearwater on June 13 at mile mark 761.1 in our trip. When we dropped our anchor today, we were at mile mark 1018.7, 257.6 miles in five days. Engine run time (including docking, anchoring, etc.) for those miles was 40.9 hours, an average of 6.3 knots.

We'll probably spend tomorrow anchored here, catching our breath and doing some kayaking through the close-in islets. After that, probably a cruise down to Pender Harbor and perhaps a trip up to Princess Louisa Inlet.
