June 21st - Princess Louisa Inlet - A Rest Day

We enjoyed our rest day in Princess Louisa Inlet. We walked the short path to Chatterbox Falls and then paddled the kayaks along the shoreline passing many of the streams and cascades that tumble into the inlet. All of the superlatives used to describe this location are true!

The morning started out a little showery but it was generally sunny and pleasant in the afternoon. We ate our lunch featuring Marcia's fresh baked bread on the flybridge.

Since Malibu Rapids are the gatekeeper for the inlet, there is a turnover once or twice a day of boats leaving the area followed an hour or two later by boats who entered. In this morning's inflow were a couple that had previously chartered Dragontail. They were cruising in their brand new Rockport 42. Marcia and I visited with them for quite a while talking boat stuff.

Tomorrow we'll leave in the morning rush to catch the 7:45 AM low water slack. Because of the lunar phase, the tide swings are not extreme so the currents should be pretty mellow through Malibu. We'll retrace our route and head towards Smuggler Cove Marine Park about 5 miles WSW from Pender Harbor. This we'll be our jumping off point for crossing the Straits of Georgia.
